In a majority of aerospace systems, applications, and environments, standard commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) connectors are not sufficient. With the increasing demand for data for today's network-centric and data-intensive aircraft high-speed, high performance connectors are critical. Without such high performance, reliable connectivity, individual systems and nodes on a network within a jet fighter flying a nighttime mission or a large transport plane flying across the Pacific Ocean cannot transmit the essential data or power. Aerospace systems have a multitude of requirements, and as sensors and capabilities increase, they will need to increase their bandwidth and interconnect flexibility, including improving device SWaP profile, and mitigating effects from EMI and EMP, and reducing required maintenance.
