Oil & Gas

Zephyr Photonics’ high-temperature optical devices can withstand the high temperatures and pressures generated during down hole drilling applications. We design devices that support a variety of directional drilling processes allowing sensors to endure operation longer at higher operating temperatures, which will result in less drilling time. Our optical devices help in the development of engineered wells that require improved drill bit steering using seismic instrumentation with rapid communication to surface.  This technology supports the oil and gas industry’s ability to drill wells using wired drill pipes.

Improvements are also needed to support the latest generation of high temperature/high pressure (HT/HP) Measurement While Drilling (MWD) tools. These tools are capable of providing real-time continuous inclination, vibration detection, annular pressure, and gamma ray detection.
